The 2007 Senatoriables

I think the election is getting hotter as the month of MAY comes in slowly but surely. The jingles, the commercials and the out of town appearances of the candidates are truly awesome. I mean, I didn’t even know that half of these wannabe Senatoriables existed if not for the election time. I think half of the senators sleep or go LOA right after they get elected.

COMMERCIALS AND GIGS AND POSTERS
I have to say that most of their commercials suck.
1. Pichay’s “Itanim sa Senado”. Really stupid. Desperate and stupid tagline. It’s not even funny.
2. Defensor’s “TOL”. His street posters call him your, “WALKING TOL” to senate. His commercial has Keana Reeves calling him Tol, then he waves back and smiles, showing his bright, metallic retainers. Pretty generic if you ask me. Plus I don’t think TOL suits him.
3. Escudero’s “Boses sa Senado”. Needless to say, I’m a big Chiz Escudero fan. I think he’s brilliant and he stands by his beliefs. He addresses the public’s needs and commits himself to social betterment. Plus, he was the only one to mention about the Extrajudicial Killings during the GO’s stage on Plaza Miranda. It just goes to show that he thinks and barks at the same time.

PANGILINAN OUT OF GO
For goodness’ sake. just let it be. If the man wants to be an independent candidate, then let him. GO shouldn’t go running after him.

Clearly, Mr. Cuneta is a popular figure because:
1. His infamous “noted” remark.
2. He wanted PGMA and Erap to resign.
3. He’s Sharon Cuneta’s husband.

Ok. He’s got a nice, clean track record. He’s even got good laws passed. And even better, he’s Mega and Kc’s man. Enough with his superstar family. Point is, he looks the part of being a decent senator, he’s intelligent and he even looks reliable, but can he really deliver? I used to think that he’s like Al Gore, the semi-mysterious but hard hitting US VP that gets everything he wants in a push of his brows. But seriously, after reading his interview in Inquirer.net, there’s more to him than being Mr. Cuneta.

He caught me off guard when he said that, “There is more to political leadership than just being reelected.” I wasn’t expecting him to say it because I wanted Chiz Escudero to say those really meaningful words, but Kiko did and I found respect for him unexpectedly.

And when asked about him being an independent, he said, “I think part of the reason why we do have problems in our political processes is because there is a tendency to be more partisan. And the partisanship has its merits, but sometimes we have to set aside partisan political differences and look at the issue squarely and objectively and then decide on the basis of what is best for the country.” I have to give it to him. He’s unafraid to say what he thinks and stands by his words unscathed of whatever people may think of him.

GARCILLANO AND PALPARAN TO RUN FOR CONGRESS
Honestly…what do they want from congress?! It’s just plain despicable what train of thoughts these guys are having. I mean, can they be honest legislatures? HECK NO!!! Palparan uses his militia to get things done while Garcy might do another “mirakulo” to swing things in his favor. Please, stop this nonsense. I know everyone is entitled to run for office, but remember that:
In Article 2, Section 1, it states that the Philippines is a democratic and a republican state. Republican state in that the public office should be an office of public trust.
Can we trust Gracy and Mr. Berdugo? I can’t.

KAPATIRAN PARTY OFFERS AN ALTERNATIVE
Launched in Club Filipino in a fund-raising event, the three senatoriables namely Dr. Martin Bautista, Lawyers Zosimo Paredo and Adrian Sison are offering their services and sincerity. Their tagline? To bring back sense and God in Philippine elections and politics. Their event raised 72, 129.25 php, not even enough to compete with some of the more popular senatorial wannabes.

It’s nice to hear that people like these three would go out of their busy schedules to offer their hands to the filipinos. It’s also relieving to know that people with clean hearts and minds still do exist, even outside fairytales and imaginations. I wish them the best and hope that their efforts to clean Philippine politics is eventually rewarded.
