Sometimes, being tagged ‘AKTIBISTA’ just because your a UP student may give more than one meaning. Some hate being associated with that word, while others bask and claim every inch of what that word represents. Honestly, being a TIBAK isn’t all about raging rallies, wearing loose clothing, running through the streets with banners and chanting anti-government hymns for everyone to hear: it’s about being vocal of what you think, of not being afraid to be on the opposite side of the fence or be a standout in a sea of conformers. It’s more of being brave and being intelligent at the same time, of being active participants and revolutionists one way or the other. You don’t have to stand and shout and carry banners to get yourself qualified as an TIBAK, damn it, that’s not a requirement. But you should be able to think for yourself and make sense.
Having said that, in a way, I consider myself a TIBAK, not because I join rallies or anything like that; in fact, I try and stay away from those sort of gatherings because my parents would kill me if they found out. I see nothing wrong with that, but in my own little way of blogging and writing of what I think about our society, the ills and the damning mistakes we repeatedly and shamelessly make, I think I pass as a ’silent TIBAK’.
It’s been weeks since that itchy desire to write and tell-off has visited me. I’ve been busy with a lot of things (primarily my waiver, my December NMAT exam and my Med School applications) lately and frankly, whenever I watch the news or read the paper, I get more and more ‘uninspired’ to write because of all the disastrous events that happen one after the after in this country.
This year alone, too many scandals have been exposed. Like for example, Bedol and the COMELEC’s statistical magic in Maguindanao, or those ZTE, NBN and Cyber Ed deals that siphoned the FG and his beloved PGMA, Abalos, JDV, and JDV3 right in the middle of those anomalous events and let’s not forget the paying-off of 190 Congressmen to ensure that the new impeachment case against her Highness would be her shield against a more devastating and serious impeachment suit by the opposition. Then we have the long-standing issues of the still unresolved extrajudicial killings, the re-opened Hello Garci, the Fertilizer Fund scandal and FG’s involvement in gambling payolas. Currently, we are being harassed by Erap’s pardon and the G2 bombing, which my friends, is still a long way from being officially closed.
First off, it’s shameless for PGMA to claim that she granted Erap pardon for ‘national unity and reconciliation’ because she didn’t: it’s to save her ass from everyone, including us. No one likes her, not that she was ever liked, that’s why she keeps injecting herself in to win our favor. But who the hell is she kidding? The only reason she ‘forgave’ Erap is give herself a pa-tweetums and innocent image. But that won’t work now that we all know what a big cheat she is despite her diminutive size. And to top it off, the First Couple is doing all the nasty deeds hand in hand: he’s the muscle, she’s the brain. These people have no shame left, no conscience even, for them to repeatedly lie and deceive us and connive deals to pick our taxes into their own accounts. These kind of people believe that they have reached immortality because they are politicians and that they have money, power and goons. I think, personally, they have the guts to incur these evil deeds upon themselves because they have already signed their souls over to the devil, even as they are living now.
Then the legality of Erap’s pardon is simply mind-boggling. I mean, after 6 years of trial, after all the undeniable evidences that point to him nonetheless are all wasted due to his (1) willingness not to contest proceedings to recover the fruits of plunder, (2) promise not seek public office in the future and (3) mother’s condition. I can’t believe that even Dona Mary’s condition had to be included in the DOJ’s decision. If the government wants to be nice to Erap, then they should have just given him a house arrest not let him be entirely free! What about his crime? He was found guilty for crying out loud!
This country is getting crazier by the minute, I swear. You can’t be smart and rational under these unlawful conditions. No, because even if you want to, you’ll only be discouraged by what you see around you. But still, having more heart and guts to believe that our country will find a suitable leader by the 2010 elections is something that keeps me dreaming and positive. At least, that is what I hope would happen then.

I think the cuss word to describe the disgust I have over these recent events hasn’t been invented yet. So I’ll just have to say “&$%#$@&$%”.

“What about his crime? He was found guilty for crying out loud!”
about this one,
of course he was found guilty……
he would not be given pardon if he wasn’t convicted……..
conviction is a requirement for giving a pardon………..

Ruptor:
even if the courts, and most of us, have found him guilty, his pardon disregards not only his verdict, but the process, credibility of our justice system and his crime towards the country. even if he was given the pardon, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s a criminal. he won’t even admit to his crime until now and that’s crap. im not arguing the legal requirements of giving a pardon.
thanks for dropping by!
