Batasang Pambansa Rocked With Explosion

At around 8:10 pm November 13, an explosion at the Southwing entrance of the Batasang Pambansa had injured at least 6 people and killed Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar and Gabriela’s Luz Ilagan’s driver, Marcial Tando. Negros Oriental Rep. Henry Teves and some other staff people were among the injured who were taken to Miguel Malvar Hospital immediately after the explosion happened when yesterday’s session ended. PNP said that Wahab Akbar was the likely target but they have yet to confirm this. They further speculate that the bomb used had been remotely detonated by, possibly, several men in motorcycles seen near the accident.

Metro Manila and the Senate security is understandably placed on red alert. The Glorietta 2 bombing hasn’t entirely left our minds and this comes now. What a bad timing. I mean, doesn’t it seem weird, orchestrated even, that bad things tend to happen one after the other these days? Comelec Legal Chief Alioden Dalaig’s death hasn’t been solved yet and then another government official gets killed. And the thing that scares me the most is that this one happened inside the Batasang Pambansa, a place where security is supposed to be tight.

Everywhere you go these days bad news follows. It’s like someone threw a powerful curse on us all and not one can escape it. The air is brimming with so many controversies and you cannot deny the fact that you’re already fed up. Not a single good thing has happened this year; not one that could give us peace of mind for a long while that is. And this isn’t healthy because everyone is worried, everyone is on the edge of their seats thinking what possible good could the next couple of days hold for them. Everyday you hear more of the government’s filth and the cover-ups they try to feed us with but really, who are they kidding? They manipulate everything, even the law, and they control everyone they could buy with their stolen money. This isn’t a government they’re running and certainly not a democratic one: this is like Hell on earth. And you wonder why all this is happening now?

For a lot of people, or rather most, change should come now or else. This isn’t just a threat anymore, it’s a likely event. No one wants to be duped and obviously, no one wants to be cheated on. Unless the one responsible for causing all these disasters is purged from her seat, these terror attacks will only escalate. These days, no one is safe; except maybe when you have a clear conscience and a clean heart. But on second thought, not even that could save you. You’ve got to be lucky to not be at the wrong time and place.

I place little confidence with PNP that they could conclude this recent bombing incident asap and have the culprits behind bars. I mean just look at the G2 Bombing, every damn bomb expert in the world have said that their methane theory will not hold and yet they insist that they are correct. Maybe they are right and maybe the Ayala Corp. and the Makati City Government just don’t want to take the blame, but hell, where’s the evidence of their hypothesis? No material evidence and yet they knew that methane caused it? Wow, the PNP sure has lots of intuition and imagination.

The only thing that I am sure of is this: Christmas won’t be so merry this time around.

  1. As former Vice-president Emmanuel Pelaez blurted out in frustration during the martial law years: “What’s happening to our country, General?”

Indeed, what is happening to our country, Madam?

  2. this incident came on the heels of the senate hearing on the bribery scandal at malacañang and the decision of the house committee on justice to throw out the latest impeachment complaint against pgma. you have to hand it to gloria. she’s very lucky, indeed.
