To some extent, I have to agree with Sen. Miriam Santiago. Though it pains me to side with her, lest I be called a turncoat with loose screws, the fact is, some senators do seem to ‘enjoy’ asking Lozada some questions. I also agree with Sen. Enrile when he was pissed that the senators were not given equal time to ask the Pinoy Jedi Knight some queries. Are the ‘friendly’, so-called opposition senators doing it for the 2010 Elections?
The movement began way before JDV was ousted. When the ZTE scandal first caught the attention of everyone, the opposition have taken it upon themselves to purge the truth out of Joey de Venecia because the issue is against their enemy. It is only now that the wannabe presidents of this country have made their ambitions known to the public, I mean more obvious like Sen. Mar Roxas, Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Sen. Chiz Escudero. Whenever I watch the Senate Inquiry, I’m like, “Do these Senators have to repeat calling Lozada a hero?” And do they have to praise him again and again and again after each and every question e.g. Pinasasalamatan po namin kayo sa inyong paglantad…Hinahangaan po namin kayo sa inyong katapangan …etc, etc. etc. Honestly, can the senators please stop their early campaigns? You’re blocking our view.
It is sad when you analyze that this entire thing is based on corruption and politics which ultimately leads to PGMA, the feeling Head of the State. In the first place, no reshuffling of the speakership would have ever taken place if JDV’s son kept quiet. But then again, Joey would have kept quiet if he won the NBN Deal, right? So taking PGMA aside, was Joey motivated with greed as well? Could be.
If I am correct, Lozada, in his statement in the Senate, said something about moderate greed. He said that when then Com. Abalos asked for a ‘kick back’ of 130USD from the NBN Deal, the usual, tolerable 20% commission ballooned to 40% to which he could not stomach. Mind you, even if Lozada had originally wanted to keep the commission or kick back at a tolerable level, still, that is a form of corruption, a bribe, to which no one is entitled to even the broker of the deal or even the First Gentleman or his beloved wife. That is not how we should move around and lobby projects for the people; we do not pocket the people’s taxes just because we pushed for a government project. Let me remind you that being in the government means serving the people, the entire country. The people do not owe anything to the government officials; in fact they should be licking our boots for voting for them. Instead of being smug about their positions in the government, they should pay us back with honest service.
Have our systems been corrupted to the core that now, we even allow a margin of evil to happen in the government? Could we truly accept ‘moderate greed’? I know I can’t but we have to accept the fact that it exists, as Lozada said that it does.
In all that is happening, what do we do?
May I suggest that we stop calling for EDSA because (1) we are not doing that peaceful revolution any justice and respect, (2) our so-called leaders are not really for EDSA because they’re in it to fuel their personal political ambitions e.g. Ramos, Erap, Enrile etc and (3) because I don’t think it’s the right time to call for it. The people are fed up but are not angry enough to join any rally whatsoever. Besides, we should not take Lozada’s word entirely; let’s be critical and discriminating even if we sympathize with the Pinoy Jedi Knight and all his courage and honesty (and humor).
In the end, the people are still left to fend for themselves amidst such troubling crisis.

Like you, I’m tired of hearing people referring to Jun Lozada as a hero. Though I’m glad that he did finally speak up and that I appreciate what he has been doing (it’s no mean feat being under the scrutiny of so many people for several days already), I do not want him portrayed as the little lamb going against the wolves. He was one of the crooks and it he just realized that it would be better for him (and for his loved ones) that he tell all that he knows. It’s just an act of self-preservation. However, I do not discount the probability that with his actions, the truth may finally unravel itself. But he’s not innocent. He’s not unblemished. But I’m glad that he came around to doing what he should have done a long time ago.

Hmm, sometimes they say, “keep your friends close, your enemies closer.” Just an after thought.

prudence:
i agree. let’s stop putting him on a pedestal and treat him a hero. mind you, he’s doing the same thing as joey; only he’s been a much bigger star because he went through so much e.g. abduction et.al.
sargi:
fine.
thanks for stopping by!

i’m really getting tired of all this grandstanding from all sides that accomplish nothing. why don’t the people in the senate summon zte to present their side of the story? zte must be able to confirm or deny if kickbacks, commissions or whatever they call it were paid to whom and how much.

plaridel:
actually zte has been summoned and it wasn’t surprising that they denied everything about giving extras to ben abalos. what’s new? (see my new post haha)
its been a long while ha!

At the end of the hearings, what will happen to the accused? Nothing will happen. In the first place, if they have solid and credible evidence, why not bring it to the court. The purpose of the senate hearings is just like erap’s case, to make the people angtry and join the opposition in an EDSA-like “operation” to thwart the present administration that will be joined by the so called “idealistic” military cohorts of Trillanes, etc.
As always, all senate hearings on controversial issues are just grandstanding by some of the senators but nothing happened at the end of the day.
Let the court of justice decide though I am not saying that it is also free and not tainted of corruption. Let the senator make laws which is their job.

It seems Lozada are just helping ’some’ to get extra mileage in media. It looks like the Senate becomes venue of a national sitcom. Or is it a stage of national drama? I don’t like the actors though.

it’ll do us good to have some sort of faith for our leaders. though i am disgusted with their ka-balingbingan most of time, we have no choice but to endure them until the right leader comes…hopefully by 2010.

it’s like watching a rehashed version of tabing-ilog with kris aquino and boy abunda as leads. scary. very troubling.

I am not a PGMA supporter but I am glad that she became our president. Back then, I still remember that the dollars cost 60 pesos per 1 US dollar. As for the gasoline, my tita in Australia says that Philippines has a relatively cheaper gasoline as compared to them. Generally, our economy is better than before in terms of the number of opportunities we have here in the Philippines but we still think that jobs in the good-old Uncle Sam are better. Second, systems and processes are put into an order but do we follow them? Third, issues are only address when a lot of people talk about them. We are only good in reacting to issues and not pro-actively act on them.
If Jun Lozada believes that there is still justice here in the Philippines, then he would have filed a case in the court or at least in the ombudsman against those who are involved in NBN scandal. I am deeply troubled on how we immediately judge an issue without looking at all sides and evidences. (Sasabihin ng ibang tao, o ayan na naman yan… gagamitin yung mga ganiyang basis para siraan yung mga tao.) Is this how things are done? Di ba no person is convicted as guilty unless all critical evidences and facts are laid for us to study and analyze? We are using trial by pubilicty and media has its own way of dictating on how we should react on certain issues.

Lozada had much publicity these days, acting like a celebrity. Is he planning to run in 2010 election? Shame on him!! He is even using nuns and priests. He is so good in pointing fingers on others, doesn’t he have mess on his own to clean?!?!? I am very much not impressed on his dramatics, nagpapa-awa at nagmamalinis. There are even loop holes on his testimony that i wish his so called supporters would see. They so blinded with Lozada’s crying baby play. Wake Up People! this is mainly politics. YOu are being used by those na gustong magpakitang-gilas in preparation sa 2010 election.
