Since Joey and his wispy, side-swept do appeared in the Senate and uttered his famous line, “Back off!”, the ZTE-NBN scandal has never left the minds of this nation. Everyday, I sit in front of the t.v. and wait for all sorts of updates on the Senate Inquiry, Jun Lozada, Romy Neri, heck, even the latest on Abalos’ cry for libel. In the minds of the Pinoy, catching the news is tantamount to the holy observance of slapstick primetime soaps. But then again, gossip and political blunder are what moves people like me.
Around campus, every corner, is filled with students exchanging their views on whether Lozada is consistent with his sworn statements or he’s lying or if he’s just being manipulated to indeed destroy what is left of, if there is any, the Arroyo administration’s reputation. I find it amusing when I see and hear people arguing over political issues than, say, Gretchen Barreto’s pagwawala on the dancefloor or Say Alonzo’s supposed kiss mark. It’s so irritating whenever T.V. Patrol puts out the showbiz chika-minute in place of THE headlines. [Note: Stop it with the network war. It's annoying!]
I watched ABS-CBN’s HARAPAN: THE JUN LOZADA EXPOSE last Saturday and wow, I must say it almost felt like a total waste. For one thing, the word HARAPAN to me meant ONE ON ONE. The channel advertised the show as having Lozada go head to head with Abalos but what the heck were all the other administration people doing there? I was really surprised that there was a certain twist to that show and Lozada, I think, wasn’t aware of that arrangement.
I felt terrible watching them have a go at each other. It felt like I was watching PBB. The ‘men’ acted viciously; so unlike the behavior I expected from them:
(1) Lozada’s comment on how the admin people dressed. Really, the issue here isn’t about clothes and I must admit, I was a bit irritated as to why Lozada had to comment on something so trivial and superficial (Lozada was wearing a Kamisa de Chino while the admin guys wore Barong Tagalog and Amerikana). Besides, I have to agree with the admin secretary (sorry I forgot his name but he says he’s from Ilocos) that sometimes, Lozada puts up a front that he’s poor when in fact he’s not. He was an IT executive before working for the government plus, according to Ben Abalos who is president of the Wackwack Country Club, he was able to pay 500,000+Php of his membership fees in the club. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Lozada might be using his ‘probinsyanong intsik‘ image to get sympathy. But he doesn’t have to.
(2) Lozada’s supposed humor. I appreciate Lozada’s sense of humor in the Senate inquiries but somehow, he exceeded the needed amount of comic relief when he didn’t stop at giving jokes one after the other. He gave the impression that he was sort of drunk. Though I understand it must be from stress and stuff, but still, a forum such as that calls for seriousness. I don’t know; he looked high to me.
(3) Loazada’s Para sa Bayan remark. I know he’s doing it for us, for the whole country and above all, for truth. But anything in excess is bad. In his case, his repetitive remarks of ‘para sa bayan‘ and ‘para sa katotohanan‘ may end up sounding too plastic.
(4) Abalos and his lawyer. I pity Lozada for facing the ‘mob’ last Saturday. Abalos had lot of documents to present as his evidence but Lozada had none. Abalos had his lawyer, who even gave an unnecessary opening speech, while Lozada had only the channel’s crew to assist on technical stuff. Abalos even bragged about his daughter’s canteen inside Wackwack Country Club, Ben’s Diner. The former Comelec Chair even announced his famous ‘berger‘ (burger) recipe for Ben’s Diner. The lawyer, the photocopied documents and his excess information on his being the Wackwack Country Club President is a annoying. If truth be told, as shown by the PNP when they forced Carmen Lozada to sign the papers seeking security for Jun, the documents could be made up as well. There’s something about Abalos that makes me want to smash his face in whenever he talks. He talks bullsh*t.
(5) The 5 Admin People. Again, I was surprised to find Lozada answering queries from 5 admin people all at the same time. Each of the admin guys took their time in explaining tons of things (mostly unbelievable and probably falsehoods) and Lozada was only given a good 20 or so seconds to explain his side. To me, it didn’t look fair: Lozada wasn’t given time to answer every question and in turn, Lozada looked like he couldn’t defend his ‘truth’.
Its shows like this that makes you think that politics is indeed a good and integral part of entertainment. To me, the show presented basically the same questions from Senate. Few, if not, little new facts were ever extracted from the witness or from the accused. The admin people basically denied everything and made Lozada look like a liar. On the other hand, Lozada cried out foul and to some extent, used his ‘probinsyanong intsik‘ image to make himself look more distressed and kawawa. But he was ganged up, only he didn’t need to use any maka-masa ploy to get sympathy because that move, I’m afraid, might make other people see him as a fake.
Let’s just get it on in the Senate. Though the case should be filed in the court, I feel that because of the Senate’s divided composition e.g. opposition, independents or the liberal parties and the administration, this scandal is less prone to a biased investigation. It’s not the ideal place for it, but for now the Senate is the next best place to confine this scandal. I mean, would you rather have DOJ c/o Sec. Raul Gonzales or The Office of the Ombusman c/o Merceditas Guttierez take care of it?

i didn’t see the show, but i think it was a big mistake for jun lozada to participate. at this point of the game, he has done his part. has being dubbed a hero gotten into him to the extent that he now considers himself invincible? the best strategy is to keep a low profile and shut his mouth as much as possible. the more he talks, the more he puts himself in the limelight, the more the administration allies will likely find chinks in his armor. every chink they find, whether related to the truth or not, will likely diminish his credibility and tarnish the truth. he shouldn’t forget that they are bent on attacking him with everything they’ve got. he’s no david facing goliath. he’s facing many goliaths and it’s not even on a level playing field.

pardon jun lozada’s comment about the clothes. maybe it is just his way of put them on the defensive. the format should not have pitted lozada against a gang of opponents who hold high positions in government. sa bilang pa lang dehado na sya. his sense of humor i guess kept him composed and made him more comfortable. why should we fault him for that?

Lozada makes a good dramatic skills under a very witty (PNP?) director. He could emote the feelings of famas awardee dramatic actor and shed (crocodile?) tears to gain symphaty from the audience and in a twist of director’s wand delivers a comic script just like Dolphy and Che-tae! and he is successful in wasting the time of the senators and the taxpayers’ money.

The jun lozada expose’ is just but one of the national issues today. It is one of a kind, so to speak. Wether he is telling the truth or not, my only question is: WHAT IS HIS PURPOSE/REAL NTENT? Really, everytime i see jun lozada on TV, i seem to think that his ‘appeal to pitty’ outlook does no good to add ingredient on his statements and credibilty. He should have thought of the proper process by which his testimonies should be heard. Anyway, there are many jun lozada in this country, he is just the brave one. The ‘crying man’ tries to gain sympathy from the filipino people, this would propably agitate others who are also curious and somehow show pitty on him. On the one hand, people in the gov’t, especially the oppositions, are trying to dig dipper into the issue, acting like saviours of this country. Acting like real heroes of this time. Question: Did they do something good for God, Country and People? Or they are just there to criticize the administration or whoever is in position? They should stop this non-sense business of creating further confusion. Instead, they (both in the oppostion and administration) should focus into something more beneficial for the filipino people. As you can see today, their real job of legislating has already been turned into criticizing! tsk tsk tsk. They should once and for all stop this. Issues like the lozada expose’ should be handled by proper body, while others (gov’t officials) must really look into the general welfare and HELP the government! Ultimately, we are hoping to have a better PHILIPPINES!!! Mabuhay tayong lahat, magtulungan po tayo. Matanda man o bata, lalake o babae, bakla man o tomboy, mahirap man o mayaman; dapat maging responsableng mamamayan po tayo. Kung may nagkasala, may nararapat na hustisya para jan. Wag na natin palakihin pa, bagkus tulungan natin na maituwid ang pagkakamali at magbago. Lastly, we should aim high to propel this country into a better place to live in!

Jun Lozada certainly provided several significant and believable inputs on the “alleged” government cheating and massive corruption. He is extremely consistent in his sworn testimonies, and for all intent and purposes, appears incredibly credible – even minus the proper documents to support the scandalous allegations.
But can someone please advise Jun Lozada not to re-emphasize every now and then what he already mentioned in several media interviews and in the ZTE hearings – his aversion in appearing in the senate, the problem of not being able to lie, of being a mere probinsyano, a mere Jun Lozada/poor etc.
Jun have effectively delivered those messages. And yes, the Filipino people loved him for it – moreso his candidness. But I am terrified to think that people might begin to perceive him as “showbiz na showbiz” which we don’t want to happen.
Jun should also minimize his witticism as he is not performing in a comedy bar. Let me emphasize the word “minimize”, not necessarily omit.
Jun is highly articulate and capable of providing straight and concise response to questions. He should do just that.
With outpouring encouragement and support of the various folks coming from all walks of life in the February 15 Makati City rally and in the Cory Aquino organized mass at La Salle, Greenhills , Jun has obviously gained enormous confidence to share the truth to the Filipino people.
It is likewise important that Jun must take control of his personal emotions in front of the cameras. And he need not hit back nor react like a smart-aleck when answering accusations. He should allow his adversaries to smash and bully him, to throw their best punches on him.
He only need to answer truthfully in the most polite and corteous manner. People watching TV are not dumb and will see through all these bullying and threats.
We are praying that his laudable sacrifice to convey the truth will not go in vain.

i’m just wondering for all his dread of appearing before the senate since the nbn deal was investigated (or at least during the time that prompted him to seek–and not the other way around as j.lo first claimed–the legal advice of fely arroyo), why did he meet up with jamby and lacson last december?

fools rush in where angel fears to thread….no wonder they were all afraid to go to the senate hearing. hats off to jun lozada for testifying not only at the senate but at the judgemental eyes of the people. Did jun Lozada ever thought that he would have a wide range of supporters before he appear at the senate? No…..thats why hes so afraid, because he would spill the water out of the bucket, because he too is a party in this anomalies, but he put that aside…
To the CBCP, why are you moderating your statements? are you playing safe? archbishop gaudencio rosales, we need you more today than ever, stand by us fight for us….fight for our land… the Filipino people are mourning, calling for you, Naging bingi ka na rin ba?
To the PCCI and other businessmen., you are afraid that our economy will suffer if this thing continues…….but remember Man doesn’t live on bread alone but by the words of God.
To the Men in Uniform., did you Forgot your oath? it is the people you must serve…..as Jun Lozada says, ang pilipinas ay di tumutukoy sa iisang pamilya lamang……….forgive me for my words pero mas may bayag pa ang mga madre kaysa sa inyo
February 21, 2008 at 6:16 am
i believe in lozada’s expose’ …in fact it is really obvious that he is telling the truth. And nobody will risk the lives of his own or even his family just for nothing…just imagine the caliber of people that he is fighting with, Lozada’s only weapon is the truth against his counterparts.

plaridel:
indeed. i think he’s being a ‘hero’ has gotten into him that i think he takes it upon himself to carry the weight of the entire zte-nbn scandal. he’s not alone though. help him find proof of what he claims and that’s premium evidence right there.
rose:
ok. thanks for your concern but honestly, i think this is a very important issue that we shouldn’t let pass. this concerns the entire country, and this scandal might very well decide our future. so what do you consider important nowadays?
s3lvo:
i think he’s sense of humor is a tad too inappropriate sometimes, a case like in the forum. besides, i think he’s tirades where not humorous at all; he was on forced to be on the defense that night so i think his personal remarks regarding their clothes were his way of coping with the pressure.
rino:
it would be hypocritical of me to say that i understand lozada’s feelings when in fact i can’t. he must be in a very tight spot and thus, i can understand why he’s being the way he is. he needs to feel strength and and he needs to not be alone. that is where we come in. the public feeds him with these and for that, i can forgive him for being a bit ‘pa-showbiz’ at times.
bumkagdo:
he maybe a ‘cry-baby’ but i think it goes along with the weight of what he’s facing right now. that at least i can understand. it’s called pressure.
eugene:
correct you are. there are many lozadas in this country but only a few of them are brave enough to step forward. we should help each other in times like this…hhmm…collective power has always done this country more good than bad, though at times it has been used to fuel personal agendas.
raul laurente:
i agree. excess in something is never a good thing. let’s just pray and hope that those who can help out lozada and joey de venecia would also do their share (calling romy neri).
kujok:
we will have peace once this is over. so sit tight and digest every damn thing. it will do our future good, i promise.
vencio of leyte:
it doesn’t matter whether your teacher is anti-admin or not. what matters most is that you articulate your points well.
natahlie tomado:
i think he met up with the senators because lacson wanted him to come out as a witness.
empress:
thanks! will check the blog soon.
aldren:
everyone is afraid and uncertain right now especially because the situation can swing either ways. they’re just being cautious. that’s a basic thing for us to do. lets give them time to rethink. i hope they too will come to the ‘light’.
ronalyn diestro:
most of us believe him too; only i wish he stop with his excess humor and pa-awa effect sometimes.
thanks for dropping by everyone!
February 22, 2008 at 8:30 am
Aba ewan ko sa inyo basta ang sinasabi lahat ni jun Lozada ay totoo po yon lahat..sino ba naman syang magsalita ng ganon kung hindi totoo d ba?he is just an ordinary person para banggain ang malalaking tao sa gobyerno..kaya naniniwala ako na lahat lahat na sinabi nya ay 100% totoo po..kung hindi man si GMA ang kurakot dyan then nasa mga tao nya ang mga kurakot kaya she needs to open her eyes to change all the leaders na nilagay nya dyan sa position but much better if she will resign as president now..Thats all
February 22, 2008 at 9:11 am
gian:
we should all do an acid test to all those who speak and claim that they are for the truth, including lozada. though i believe him, we should be critical of what he tells us. so far, he and joey had not presented any evidence or document to prove their claims and that is a clear disadvantage for them. though i also believe that, like what the pnp did to carmen lozada and jun lozada, documents are not reliable because they can be made or cheated. to be honest, you define the truth by which side you believe in: if youre pro-lozada, his testimony is the truth and when youre pro-pgma, then lozada is a liar.
thanks for visiting!

I think regarding this issue, people should be open minded, it seems they’re just after what’s hot. Imagine all of the catholic schools showed sympathy for Lozada, maybe bec of the influence of church bishop something(sorry i forgot)where in they’re actually not supposed to intrude and take side. Common people of the Philippines dont be stupid! Dont be influnced with the crying and whatever. Think it over..
February 22, 2008 at 2:46 pm
In this issue you’ll really see those few who are thinking critically.. Why did Lozada just return the money when he was being examined in the senate?First the 50 000 then the 500 000. Did he realize that those are bribe money when its already an issue..wow..believable huh..
February 22, 2008 at 3:03 pm
bato bato sa langit tamaan wag magalit”’…im just telling the fact…thats all
i thank you bow..

so you think pgma shouldnt be held accountable for this mess up? i think she should considering her family is tied to the same anomalies as she is: corruption and cheating.

honestly talaga im not a fan of the arroyo government. why should i? she cheated and i will not let it pass. countless times in her presidency she has been impeached, charged with corruption (along with the FG) and asked to resign via coup and people’s initiative. and i dont think she has the right to claim for the boom in our economy. thank the ofws mainly.

Political Crisis in the Phils. is at its worst. People who try to tell the truth has to face the fact that they are risking their own life and the life of their family. Jun Lozada, as how I analyze it is being pressured by the officials of the government to suppress the truth. The people behind the broadband scandal sees the people as morons, for the people might not understand the present situation of the political system in the country.
They thought that the people will be that easy to fool. Well, They were wrong. Filipinos are intelligent. They may not speak but they are no idiot.
March 6, 2008 at 1:44 pm
We have much thankful that Mr.Lozada’s testimony !Co’z without Him we don’t know the menace to our country Philippines ,so we should have to meddle this controversial behind this administration,we Pinoy involves all this co’z we are Pilipino citizens and we “LOVE OUR Country much “

With this cry of almost every Filipino asking for truth, hope and pray that everyone reflect and excersise faith personally. And asked ourselves under who’s authority we are doing this? For the Philippine people? Juan dela Cruz is more that capable of taking care of his destiny, we are resilient of all calamity, local and foreign, natural and man-made. Kennedy once said “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.”

jun lozada is viewed here outside manila as another actor promoting a lousy movie. If we change the president right now, well it make a miracolous change. lozada is just another politician. He causes traffic for truckers delivering vegetables to manila. He is specifically an economic disadvantage. Hope we can charge him with economic damages.

one thing for sure…there’s pressure everywhere…we can’t tell what would happen next…are we going to catch the culprit behind all these? would another bomb be dropped on us again? would we all look stupid again at the end of the day? is there nothing we could do?
it’s like THE HANGED MAN’s SONG…a novel that i just recently read…
only, our situation is less techy… but i do want to use as much profound words as i could to give those politicians a slice of my opinion…
i hate politicians….the hell with them…
